Born in San Luis Obispo, California, on October 18, 1987, Zachary David Alexander Efron began acting and singing at an early age, and appeared in a number of high school productions. Recommended to an agent by his drama teacher he made his screen debut in a 2002 episode of the sci-fi tv series "Firefly" going on to appear in the likes of "ER" "The Guardian" and the tv movie "Miracle Run." By 2005, he was cast member on the series "Summerland" and appeared on such prime-time hit shows as "CSI: Miami" and "NCIS" The 2006 Disney Channel Original Movie "High School Musical" catapulted Zac to stardom. 7.7 million viewers tuned in to the premier. The soundtrack topped the album charts and was the years best-seller. The following year, he starred in the movie version of Hairspray with John Travolta, while "High School Musical 2" debuted to an audience of more than 17 million in the U.S. alone, and his offscreen romance with leading lady Vanessa Hudgens became a media sensation. Following a third "High School Musical" he appeared opposite Matthew Perry in "17 Again" before starring in the movies "Me and Orson Welles" and "Charlie St. Cloud." Subsequent projects ranged from starring in roles in such romantic fare as "The Lucky One" and "That Awkward Moment" to the animated "The Lorax" and the historical drama "Parkland." He co-starred with Seth Rogen in Neighbors and its sequel, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, and with Robert De Niro in "Dirty Grandpa." In 2017, he starred alongside Dwayne Johnson in the movie adaptation of tv classic "Baywatch" and with Hugh Jackman in "The Greatest Showman" Since winning his first teen choice award in 2006, he has been a perennial nominee, wishing 13 of the iconic surfboards. An upcoming role may complete his transition from the teen star to serious actor- he is portraying serial killer ted Bundy in a movie slated for 2019.
