Shania Twain born Eileen Regina Edwards in Windsor, Ontario, on August 28, 1965, she took her stepfather's surname when her mother remarried. She began singing in bars at the age of 8 to help with her family's bills and wrote her first song at the age of 10. She pursued a musical career throughout her teens, performing in bands and making inroads into the country music scene as a solo act. Tragedy struck in 1987 when her mother and stepfather were killed in a car accident. She returned home to take care of her younger siblings, performing at a local resort to support them. When she finally resurfaced, she changed her name to Shania and signed a country music label. Her debut album spawned a couple of minor hits... and caught the attention of superstar record producer Mutt Lange, whose previous credits included hit albums for AC/DC, Def Leppard and Bryan Adams. The two became romantically involved, marrying in late 1993. And wrote and recorded together. Their partnership resulted in the 1995 Grammy-winning album "The Woman In Me" and it's string of country hits. The huge breakthrough was 1997's "Come On Over" album, which contained such smash-hit singles as "You're Still The One," "That Don't Impress Me Much" and "Man! I Feel Like A Woman." Global success followed. The album stayed on the U.S. charts for two years, selling 40 million copies worldwide, making it the biggest-selling album of all time by a female musician. Subsequent hits followed- but her career was derailed when she contracted Lyme disease and was plagued by vocal problems. Shania and Mutt- who have one child together- divorced in 2010, and she remarried the following year, around the time that she returned to the spotlight. The 'Queen of Country Pop' with over 100 million records to date, Shania is currently on an arena tour of North America that will head to Europe and beyond in the fall.
