Born Lawrence Gene David in Brooklyn, New York, on July 2, 1947, Larry David graduated with a B.A. in history from the university of Maryland in 1970. He drifted into a number of jobs, from a brassiere salesman to limo driver, before an acting class led him into stand-up comedy. He became a writer and cast member on the TV sketch show "Fridays" before landing a shortlived stint as a performer and writer on "SNL." In 1998, he teamed up with Jerry Sinefeld and created one of the most successful sitcoms in TV history. Although he rarely appeared onscreen- fans will recognize him as the caped lawyer and on the voice of George Steinbrenner- "Seinfeld" was rooted in large part in Larry's life. He was the inspiration for the George Costanza character, Kramer was based on the neighbor and storylines were ripped from Larry's real life. He wrote a total of 62 "Seinfeld" episodes earning an Emmy- and a vast fortune from syndication! Although he has dabbled in movies- he followed a role in 2012's "The Three Stooges" by writing and starring "Clear History" in 2013- he continued to grace the small screen, stepping squarely into the spotlight with the creation of his comedy series "Curb Your Enthusiasm" in which he stars as Larry David, a fictionalized caricature of himself- for HBO. The hugely acclaimed show earned 38 Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe. And took Larry from cult status to stardom in his own right. Following a six-year hiatus, the show recently returned for a ninth season.
