Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman, Sean Connery, Jack Nicholson, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood, Tommy Lee Jones, Arnold Schwarenegger, al Pacino, Burt Reynolds were reportedly all considered for the role of Rick Deckard- eventually played by Harrison Ford in Ridley Scott's sci-fi classic "Blade Runner" Deckard is a "Blade Runner" in the movie, a policeman charged with hunting and "Retiring" androids called replicants. "Blade Runner" was released on June 25, 1982 and although its box-office perfromance was underwhelming, it gained cult status and is now generally considered to be one of the greatest sci-fi movies ever made. Author Philip K. Dick- on whose novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" the film is based- is said to have thought "Dallas" TV star Victoria Principal would be ideal for replicant Rachael, the role played by Sean Young. Other cast members include Edward James Olmos as the mysterious Lawman Gaff, Daryl Hannah as the pleasure model replicant Pris and Dutch actor Rutger HAuer as the chilling replicant leader, Roy Batty. The movie's soundtrack, composed by Vangelis, earned great critical acclaim and was nominated for BAFTA and Golden Globe awards. Now, 35 years after the original film's debut, a sequel has hit theaters. Set decades after the original "Blade Runner 2044" stars Ryan Gosling as LAPD Officer K and sees Harrison Ford reprise the role of Rick Deckard and Edward James Olmos return as Gaff.
