After graduating from the University of Alabama with a theater degree, Sonequa Martin-Green- who was born in Russellville, Alabama on March 21, 1985- relocated to New York to pursue her acting ambitions. Minor stage and screen success led to her breakthrough role as Courtney Wells on the hit series "The Good Wife" In 2012, she was cast as Sasha Williams, the sister of Tyreese, on "The Walking Dead" a role that was specifically created for her. The character soon became a series regular. Meanwhile, she also appeared in seven episodes of TV's "Once Upon A Time." She has been married to actor Kendric Green, who plays Scott on "The Walking Dead" since 2010. The couple's first child was born in 2015 with Sonequa's pregnancy hidden during filming by her wearing thick layers of clothing and carrying larger guns! Her most recent role sees her cast as the lead in the latest iteration of one of the most successful franchises in entertainment history. She stars as first officer Michael Burnham on the new CBS series "Star Trek: Discovery" making the first time that an African-American women has headed up a "Star Trek" cast.
