Taking the name One Direction, they were an immediate hit with the public, and although they didn't win, they were snapped up by Simon Cowell's record company. The group's debut single, "What Makes You Beautiful" soared to the top of the U.K. charts, and hit the top 5 in the states. The group's 2011 debut album, "Up All Night" went straight to the top of the U.S. and Canadian album charts, making One Direction the first british pop group in history to debut at No. 1 in both countries it was also No. 1 in 14 other countries! They went on to become the first group in history to have their first four albums debut at No. 1 on the billboard charts. The 2014 "Where We Are" world tour was the highest-grossing tour ever by a vocal group, generating $290 million. Following Zayan Malik's departure from the lineup in 2015, One Direction went on hiatus to allow the remaining quartet to explore other avenues. This summer, Harry's self-titled solo album debuted at No. 1 in several countries including the U.K the U.S. and Australia. He has also embarked on an acting career, sacrificing his signature flowing locks to play a soldier in the World War II action-drama "Dunkirk."
