Samuel L. Jackson Born in Washington D.C. on December 21, 1948, Samuel Leroy Jackson was raised in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by his mother and her parents. He attended a number of segregated schools before enrolling at Morehouse College in Atlanta, intending to pursue a degree in Marine Biology, but he switched his major to drama after joining a local acting group. Following the assassination of Marin Luther King Jr. in 1968, Jackson became involved in the practical protest and radical activism, which led to serious brushes with authority. During a suspension from college, he was a social worker in Los Angeles. He eventually earned his drama degree in 1972, the same year he made his movie debut in "Together for Days" He spent the next decade working in New York Theater and appearing in TV movies. He began to rack up screen credits in films as diverse as Eddie Murphy comedy "Coming to America" and the Martin Scorsese classic "Goodfellas." By the end of the 1990s Samuel L Jackson was a major star, thanks to such hits as "Die Hard With A Vengeance" "Deep Blue Sea" and "The Negotiator" he also starred as Mace Windu in "Star Wars: Episode I- The Phantom Menace. 2000 brought hit movies "Rules of Engagement" "Shaft" and "Unbreakable" he went on to star in a broad spectrum of movies from "S.W.A.T" to "Black Snake Moan" voiced such animated fare as "The Incredibles" starred in two more "Star Wars" movies, and furthered his cult status with "Snakes On A Plane" Starring with 2008's "Iron Man" he was portrayed Nick Fury in a number of Blockbuster movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Recent credits include "The Hateful Eight" "The Legend of Tarzan" and "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children" To date, his movies have grossed 516 billion, and upcoming projects such as XXX: Return of Xander Cage" "Kong Skull Island" and "Blazing Samurai" will no doubt add greatly to that tally!
