One of the most eagerly anticipated movies of 2016 is a remake of the classic 1960 western "The Magnificient Seven" -which was itself a remake of a Japanese movie form the 1950s! Released in 1954 and co-written and directed by Akira Kurosawa, Seven Samurai" was set in 1586 and told the tale of a group of Ronin warriors hired by a village to protect against bandits who would return after harvest to steal their crops. A technical and creative masterpiece, it became Japan's highest-grossing movie. Director John Sturges adapted the tale to the American old west, casting Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Horst Bucholz, Charles Bronson, Robert Vaugh, James Coburn, and Brad Dexter as the hired gunslingers. The movie spawned three sequels- "Return of the Seven" "Guns of the Magnificient Seven" and "The Magnificient Seven Ride" -and 1998 TV series. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the latest version stars Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D'Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo and Martin Sensmeier.
