Neil young was born in Toronto on November 12, 1945. In 1966, he had fellow Canadian Bruce Palmer drove to California in an attempt to locate musicians Stephen Stills and Richie Furay, even though they had no address or number for them. Incredibly, they found each other in a Los Angeles traffic jam- Stills recognizing Young's 1953 pontiac hearse! Dewey Martin, they formed Buffalo Springfield. Chart success came with the single "For What It's Worth" before the group disbanded in 1968. Stills formed a supergroup, Crosby, Stills & Nash with David Crosby of The Birds and Graham Nash of The Hollies, after launching his solo career, Young was drafted in, and the group was renamed Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Although he has periodically reunited with Crosby, Stills & Nash, it is his body of work as a solo artist- occasionally backed by the band Crazy Horse- that has established Neil Young as one of the most influential singer-songwriters of his generation. Platinum-selling albums such as "After The Gold Rush" "Harvest" and "Rust Never Sleeps" have seen Young experiment with a number of genres, from Folk to country, from hard rock to electronic music, and his canon of classic songs ranges from "Heart of Gold" to "Rockin' In The Free World." His awards include Junos, Grammys and honorary doctorates. He has twice been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame, as a solo artist and as a member of Buffalo Springfield. He has also earned widespread recognition for his efforts on behalf of humanitarian causes. Later this year, Young will be part of a stellar lineup of rock legends, along with Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Roger Waters and The Who, that will perform at a specially convened Coachella festival in California. The demand for tickets was so great that the festival will be repeated the following weekend!
