Salma Hayek Jimenez was born in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, on September 2, 1966. It has been reported that, as a young girl, she regularly had her head and eyebrows shaved off by her grandmother who believed that such drastic action would ensure luscious locks in later years! Educated in both Mexico and the United States, Salma dropped out of college to pursue her acting aspirations. Stage work led to tv commercials and a role on popular daytime tv serial before she was cast in the title role of the soap opera, "Teresa," a show that was syndicated to two dozen countries and made her a big star in Mexico. But Salma was ambitious, and in 1991 she relocated to Los Angeles to try her luck in Hollywood. Starting again from scratch, it was 18 months before Salma landed a small role in "Mi Vida Loca" bit parts on TV series such as "The Sinbad Show" followed before she made her major breakthrough opposite Antonio Banderas in 1995's "Desperado." The likes of "From Dusk Till Dawn." "Fools Rush In" and "Wild Wild West" established her as one of Hollywood's leading ladies. She formed her own production company, fulfilling a long-cherished ambition by bringing the story of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo to the screen in 2002. "Frida" won two Oscars and earned Salma the best actress nomination. She has continued to bolster her mogul credentials, executive producing the hit TV series "Ugly Betty" and directing the 2003 tv movie "The Maldonado Miracle." In recent years, her acting roles have ranged from the sitcom "30 Rock" to such animated fare as "Puss In Boots" and "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" to the 2015 drama "September of Shiraz" she follows the recent "Tale of Tales" by joining an all-star cast for the upcoming animated "Sausage Party." She is married to French billionaire Francois-Henry Pinault. Their daughter Valentina was born in 2007.
