Kendrick Lamar Duckworth was born on June 17, 1987, in Compton, California. Calling himself K-Dot, he released his first full-length Top Dawg Entertainment. By the time he dropped the stage name and reverted to Kendrick Lamar in 2009, he was one of the fastest-rising young rappers on the west coast. That same year, he co-formed hip-hop supergroup Black Hippy. He released his first studio album- "Selection 80" in 2011. The following year, he signed a deal with AFtermath and Interscope Records. His major-label debut album "Good Kid, Ma.ad. City" which contained his first top-20 single, "Swimming Pools (Drank)" debuted at No.2 and went platinum, and Kendrick earned seven Grammy nominations. He toured with Kanye West and collaborated with the likes of Drake and Eminem. "i" the lead single from his third album- win two Grammys. Released in March 2015, "To Pimp A Butterfly" debuted at the top of the U.S. and U.K album charts and was streamed a record 9.6 million times on its first day on Spotify! That summer, Kendrick was featured on Taylor Swift's chart-topping "Bad Blood" single. He had risen to the pinnacle of rap- and his coronation came with the 2016 Grammy's, when he received nominations in eleven categories and took home five Grammy's!
