Born in Union City, New Jersey, on May 3, 1970, Bobby Cannavale fell in love with performing at an early age, appearing in school productions of "The Music Man" and "Guys and Dolls." During his teens, he lived in Puerto Rico and Florida. But after finishing high school, he returned to New Jersey to pursue his acting ambitions. Early theater work and small roles in a handful of movies led to a starring role as FDNY paramedic Bobby Caffey on the TV series "Third Watch." He went on to star with Alan Arkin in the legal drama "10 Centre Street" which was written and directed by Sidney Lumet, his father-in-law at that time. Numerous TV and movie roles followed, including a stint on the hit sitcom "Will & Grace" that earned Bobby a primetime Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series. Subsequent movie credits spanned the spectrum, from the action thriller "Snakes On A Plane" to the comedy "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" TV work ranged from "Cold Case" and "Blue Bloods" to "Louie" and he took the starring role in the short-lived 2009 tv series "Cupid." His work on the New York stage brought critical acclaim, including two Tony award nominations. His portrayal of the cruel and brutal gangster GUP Rosetti on the hit cable series "Boardwalk Empire" enhanced Bobby's growing reputation and earned him an Emmy Award. A 12-episode run on season four of "Nurse Jackie" in which he and his real-life teenage son, Jake Cannavale, were cas as on screen father and son, earned Bobby an Emmy award nomination. Following three movies in 2015, "Danny Collins" "Spy" and "Ant Man" "Bobby" now takes the lead role of Richie Finestra in Vinyl" a new cable drama directed by Martin Scorsese and co-produced by Scorsese and Mick Jagger.
