2016: Milestones in TV & Movies This week, we look at some of the major milestones in the world of TV and movies that will be reached in 2016. 100 Years: In 1916, with the movie business still in its infancy. Mary Pickford signed a studio contract that made her the first actress to command a million-dollar salary. Just two years into his film career, 26-year-old Charlie Chaplin signed a deal that made him one of the highest-paid people in the world and gave him his own Los Angeles movie studio in which to work. 2016 sees the 100th anniversary of the birth of Issur Danielovitch, who went on to find fame as Kirk Douglas. Others born in 1916 include Olivia De Havilland, Gregory Peck, Jackie Gleeson and Betty Grable, as well as "Charlie And The Chocolate Factory" author Roald Dahl. 90 Years: Had she lived, screen goddess Marilyn Monroe would have been celebrating her 90th birthday in 2016. She was born 6 weeks before Fred Gwynne, who earned TV immortality as Herman Munster. 80 Years: AMong those who will celebrate their 80th birthdays in 2016 are Burt Reynolds, Robert Redford, Albert Finney and Ursula Andress. TV great Michael Landon would have been 80 this coming year. Timothy Dalton, perhaps best known for his stint as James Bond, turns 70 next year, as does "Rocky" and "Rambo" action movie legend Sylvester Stallone. 60 Years: Tom Hanks movies have earned more than $4 Billion at the box office. He celebrates his 60th birthday in 2016, as do Mel Gibson, Christoph Waltz and "Breaking Bad" star Bryan Cranston. 50 Years: Among the cult classic TV shows that debuted in 1966 are "Batman" "Star Trek" "The Monkees" "Dark Shadows" "The Green Hornet" and "Mission: Impossible" Among the stars turning 40 next year are Adam Sandler, Salma Hayek, Halle Berry and Robin Wright. 40 Years: Women ruled the airwaves in 1976. Among the hit TV shows that debuted that year were "Charlies Angels" "Laverne & Shirley" and "The Bionic Woman." 30 Years: Megan Fox, Shia Labeouf, Robert Pattinson, and "Game Of Thrones" stars Emilia Clarke and Kit Harrington all turn 30 in 2016. 20 Years: "The Daily Show" debuted in 1996. Three years later, Jon Stewart took over host duties, and the show soon became a genuine cultural phenomenon. 10 Years: 2006 was the year of the Blockbuster "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" took in over $400 million, eclipsing "Night At The Museum" "X-Men: The Last Stand" "The DaVinci Code," "Superman Returns," "Cars" and "Happy Feet."
