A Spooky special by spooky Steve McGarry. Sir Christopher Lee was the only member of "The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship of The Ring" cast to have actually met the author J.R.R. Tolkein, who died in 1973, at the age of 81. Horror movie legend Lee- who was born in London on May 27, 1922- was a step-cousin of James Bond creator Ian Fleming, and Lee became an author of his own right wiht the publication of his 1977 autobiography "Tall, Dark and Gruesome." He embarked on an acting career following his Royal Air Force service in World War II. After a decade of bit parts was cast as The Creature, opposite Peter Cushing as Baron Frankenstein, in 1957's "The Curse of Frankenstein" he had found his milieu, and over the next two decades, he starred in a plethora of horror movies, portraying horror's greatest icons! He first portrayed Count Dracula in a 1958 movie for horror specialists Hamer films and revisited the role many times over the years. Other roles included Kharis The Mummy, The Mad Monk Rasputin, The Evil Dr. Fu Manchu, and Sherlock Holmes. In the 1970s, his credits included villainous roles in "The Three Muskateers" "The Wicker Man" and James Bond movie "The Man With The Golden Gun" by the 1990s, he was appearing in such films as the "Gremlins" and "Police Academy" Franchises! The new millennium brought Lee to the attention of younger generations with his roles in "Star Wars" and "Lord Of The Rings" series. The veteran star died in London on June 7, 2015, one week after his 93rd birthday.
