Born in Elizabeth Irene Mitchell in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, on February 10, 1974, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania. She made her actig debut in the 1998 independent movie "Surrender Dorothy" billed as Elizabeth Casey. She adopted the stage name Elizabeth Banks soon after earning a master of fine arts degree at the american conservatory theater in San Francisco. Early roles included appearances on such TV shows as "All My Children" "Sex And The City" "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." and "Without a Trace" and the movies "Shaft" and "Wet Hot American Summer." In 2002, she appeared as Betty Brant in "Spider-Man" a role she reprised in two sequels- as well as "Swept Away" and "Catch Me If You Can." She went on to demonstrate her range in movies as diverse as "Seabiscuit," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Slither." 2008, was a stellar year for Elizabeth as she notched up roles in six movies, including starring opposite Seth Rogen in "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" and portraying first lady Laura Bush in Oliver Stone's "W" Having played Dr. Kim Briggs on three seasons of "Scrubs" Elizabeth was cast in 2010 as anchorwoman Avery Jessup on the acclaimed Tina Fey sitcom "30 Rock." The Role earned her two Emmy Nominations. In 2012, she took on the role of Effie Trinket in "The Hunger Games" and appeared in and co-produced the hit comedy "Pitch Perfect." Two further releases in the "Hunger Games" series, the lead in "Walk of Shame" and a voice role in "The Lego Movie" have kept Elizabeth in the limelight. Having directed, co-produced and appeared in this year's "Pitch Perfect 2." she follows her role in this month's "Magic Mike XXL" with the final installment of the "Hunger Game's" movie which hits screens this November.
