The youngest of nine children, Mark Wahlberg was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 5, 1971. He was offered an escape route from his brother Donnie, to join a new pop band. But life in New Kids On The Block was not to Mark's liking, and he soon quit. While Donnie went on to enjoy global fame and fortune, Mark dropped out of high school and straight into trouble. But Mark's brushes with authority escalated Donnie threw him a lifeline. Donnie helped his kid brother land a record deal and produced the music. The single "Good Vibrations" gave Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch an international hit in 1991, catapulting Mark to stardom, thanks in no small part to his good looks and the buff physique that he unveiled at every opportunity! Mark began to make forays into acting, appearing in the tv movie "The Substitue" and on the big screen in "Renaissance Man." He earned plaudits for his work opposite Leonardo Dicaprio in 1995's gritty "The Basketball Diaries" and starred in the movies "Fear" and "Traveller." But it was Mark's perforance in 1997's "Boogie Nights" that won rave reviews and confirmed the arrival of a movie star! He starred in the likes of "Three Kings" and "The Perfect Storm" showed an impressive range in vehicles as diverse as "Planet of The Apes" and "Rock Star" and showed a flair for comedy in "I Heart Huckabees" he proved he could carry a box office hit in "The Departed" was rewarded with Oscar and Golden Globe nominations. Subsequent credits include "The Other Guys" The Fighter" "Lone Survivor" "Pain & Gain" and "Transformers: Age of Extinction." The 2012 comedy "Ted" has spawned a sequel that hits screens this summer. The HBO series "Entourage" and "Boardwalk Empire" have established his credentials as a producer. :In his personal life, with the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation, the married father of four has shown a commitment to giving disadvantaged kids an escape route from the kind of environment that once threatened to swallow him hole.
