The Avengers The Superhero team The Avengers debuted in a comic book published by Marvel Comics in September 1963. Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby, the team originally consisted of Iron Man, Ant-Man, The Wasp, Thor, and The Hulk had left the group and Captain America a character popular during the second World War, had been added to the lineup, following a storyline that saw him revived after being discovered trapped in ice! An animated TV show, "The Avengers: United They Stand" launched in 1999, featuring a lineup based on the spin-off comic series "The West Coast Avengers," it was canceled after 13 episodes. The team has been featured in two more animated shows-2010s "The Avengers" Earth's Mightiest Heroes! and 2013's "Avengers Assemble." In 2012, "The Avengers," the sixth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe of Superhero films, was an incredible box-office success.Written and directed by Joss Whedon, it generated more than $1.5 billion worldwide! Next month sees the release of a sequel, "Avengers: Age Of Ultron" with Whedon returning to the helm. Two further sequels are scheduled for 2018 and 2019.
