Sam Smith 2014 saw Sam Smith seemingly emerge from nowhere to become the fastest-rising star in popular music! Samuel Frederick Smith was born in London on May 19, 1992. Raised in a small village in the English countryside, he began performing at an early age and studied singing and songwriting with a private jazz tutor. He was a member of junior operatics and musical theater ensembles, and graduated to singing in the chorus of such musicals as "South Pacific" in London's west end theater district. He moved to London at the age of 18 and began working at a bar in teh financial district. He sent a demo to Elvin Smith, a singer he had seen open for Adele in concert, and within a short time, Elvin became Sam's manager. Elvin arranged for Sam to write with songwriter Jimmy Napes, and the two immediately hit it off. When Sam was featured on the track "Latch" by Disclosure, a song that hit No. 11 on the U.K. charts in 2012, record labels began to take interest. He signed to capitol records and released his first single "Lay Me Down" In early 2013. That summer, he was featured on the British chart-topper "La La La by Naughty Boy and then later followed up on its success with a well received E.P. It was time for Sam to take center stage. Propelled by the worldwide hit singles "Stay With ME" and "I'm Not The Only One" Sam's debut album, "In The Lonely Hour" was a massive global smash, earning the young British singer a plethora of awards and millions of devoted fans!
