Declan Patrick MacManus was born in London on August 25, 1954, the son of a dance band singer. Even in his teens, he was a prolific songwriter. In 1974, he formed the band Flip City, billing himself as D.P. Costello, while working at a variety of jobs, including data tape of his songs earned him a solo contract wiht U.K. label Stiff Records, in 1976, and in the defiant spirit of the times, he became Elvis Costello. His first album- "My Aim Is True." was released to tremendous critical acclaim in 1977, sweeping Costello to fame and into the U.S. top 40, in the vanguard of "New Wave" music. The fire and venom of his songs marked him as the "Angry Young Man" of Rock... but over the next few years, as his output spanned everything from pop to soul to country to jazz, Elvis established himself as a Supremely gifted and versatile songwriter and performer. He has gone on to score movie soundtracks, write and perform classical music, and produce artists such as The Pogues and Madness. He was the first artist to write songs in partnership with Paul McCartney since John Lennon, a collaboration that he followed by teaming up with Burt Bacharach, he has even found time for cameo roles in TV sitcoms an movies such as "Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged ME" and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby." Costello was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. The same year that he married jazz singer Diana Krall. The couple's twin sons were born in 2006. American fans can catch Elvis on a string of dates this March and April. Before he undertakes a number of dates in his native Britain this Summer.
