AC/DC Following in the footsteps of older brother George, who enjoyed chart success in the 1960s with The Easybeats, Angus and Malcolm Young formed AC/DC in Sydney, Australia, in 1973. Fellow Sottish immigrant Bon Scott joined as vocalist the following year, and the band relocated to Melbourne, where drummer Phil Rudd and bassist Mark Evans were recruited. They paid their dues on Australia's notorious pub circuit, Angus adopting the gimmick of dressing as a schoolboy that has became his signature look. They soon turned their attention to Europe, where constant touring paid off with cart success in Britain. In 1977, bassist Mark Evans ws replaced by Cliff Williams. The band's sixth album, 1979's "Highway To Hell." Took them onto the U.S charts, but in the U.S. charts, but in February 1980, hard-living 33-year-old front man Bon Scott was found dead in London. Ex-Geordie vocalist Brian Johnson was recruited, and the band bounced back with the multi-platinum album "Back In Black." "Back In Black" and 1981's "For Those About To Rock We Salute You" established AC/DC as superstars. In the 1990s, the albums "The Razors Edge" and "Ballbreaker" went multi-platinum. 2000s, "Stiff Upper Lip" and 2008s "Black Ice" also went Platinum. AC/DC released the "Rock or Bust" album in late 2014, soon after confirming that Malcolm Young had left the band for health reasons. Nephew Stevie Young was drafted in as a replacement. Inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame in 2003. The group has sold more than 2000 million albums worldwide. Having rocked the 2015 Grammy Awards show, AC/DC will tour the world this year, on a schedule that includes a headline appearances at the California music festival Coachella.
