2015: Milestones in Music Had he lived, Elvis Presley, would have celebrated his 80th birthday in 2015. The "King of Rock 'n' Roll," who changed the face of popular music when he burst onto the scene in the mid-1950s, is the best selling artist of all time. 1955-Rock and Roll entered mainstream culture around the globe, spearheaded by Bill Haley & the Comets and the Worldwide Chart-Topper "Rock around the clock." As 2015 approaches, we look at some major milestones in music that will be reached this coming year. 2015, sees the 100th anniversary of the birth of Frank Sinatra in Hoboken, New Jersey, the legendary crooner, sold more than 150 million records, won two grammy awards and an oscar and received both the presidential Medal of Freedom and the Congressional Gold Medal. Among the rock legends who will celebrate their 70th birthday in 2015 are Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart, Blondie's Debbie Harry, Pete Townsend of the Who and Neil Young. Reggae superstar Bob Marley, who died in 198, would also have turned 70 years old in 2015. Having conquered the British charts the previous year, the rolling stones took North America by Storm in 1965, spending a month at No.1 on the billboard charts with the breakthrough hit "(I can't get no) satisfaction." The Bee Gees abandoned rock and embraced disco in 1975...and soared to top of the charts with "jive talking'." The new direction would bring them unprecedented success worldwide! An estimated audience of 1.9 billion people watched the dual-venue live aid concert, beamed live around the globe from London and Philadelphia in July 1985. More than 1,000 musicians including Paul McCartney, U2, Madonna and Coldplay-performed at Live 8, a series of benefit concerts held around the world on July 2, 2005, in the support of the "make poverty history" movement. The "classic" pink floyd line-up played onstage for the first time in 24 years. Lady Gaga became the first artist to rack up more than one billion views of her material on youtube.
