Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 22, 1976, Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon was a child model who apppeared in a number of TV commercials. She launched her acting career in 1991 with high profile roles in the movie "The Man in The Moon" and "Wildflower" a TV movie directed by Diane Keaton. Roles in the likes of "Jack The Bear" and the miniseries "Return to Lonesome Dove" followed. She graduated from High School in 1994, intending to put acting on hold to attend Standford University, but roles in the movies "Fear" and "Freeway" lured her back to Hollywood. By the end of the decade, her performances in "Pleasantville" "Cruel Intentions" and "Election" had firmly established Reese as a major talent. 200's "Little Nicky" and "American Psycho" were followed by her big breakthrough in the starring role of the 2001 hit comedy "Legally Blonde." The 2003 sequel saw her join the ranks of Hollywood's highest-paid actresses. The early 200's also saw such hits as "Sweet Home Alabama," "Just Like Heaven" and the period classic "Vanity Fair." Her 1999 marriage to actor Ryan Phillipe, which produced two children, ended in 2007. She married talent agent Jim Tooth in 2011 and gave birth to a son the following year. Her portrayal of country star June Carter in the 2005, Johnny Cash bipic "Walk the Line" brought her an Oscar for best actress. Subsequent projects have included the thrillers "Rendition" and "Devil's Knot," the romantic "Water For Elephants" and the comedies "Four Christmases" and "This Means War." She also voiced the lead character in the animated hit "Monsters vs. Aliens."
