Born on February 19, 1955, in Athens Georgia, Jeff Daniels was raised in Chelsea, Michigan, and began acting during his college years. He gained early success on the New York stage, made his TV debut in a 1980 episode of " Milos Forman movie "Hawaii Five-O" and launched his film career in the 1981 "Ragtime" two years later, he gained acclaim and attention for his role as Debra Winger's husband in "Terms of Endearment." The mid-1980s, brought Golden Globe nominations for his work in "The Purple Rose of Cairo" and "Something Wild." Subsequent movies ranged from "Radio Days" to "Arachnophobia." Married to his high school sweetheart since 1979, he moved with her back to Michigan in the mid 1980s and raised her family there. It was in his hometown of Chelsea, in 1991, that Jeff founded the acclaimed non-profit Purple Rose Theater Company. Jeff's career hit even greater heights in the 1990s thanks to the likes of "Speed" "Dumb and Dumber" and "101 Dalmations" but those success were tempered by misses such as "My Favorite Marian." His later projects have ranged from the civil war drama "Gods and Generals" to the light comedy "The Squid and the Whale" for which he earned another Golden Globe nomination. To the animated sci-fi romp "Space champs." Having won an Emmy and received a clutch of other major Award Nominations for his portrayal of anchorman Will McAvoy on the cable drama "The Newsroom" Jeff has teamed up with Jim Carrey to reprise their classic buffoon roles in "Dumb and Dumber To."
