Carrie Underwood Born on March 10, 1983, Carrie Marie Underwood was raised on a cattle farm on Checotah, Oklahoma. She began singing in the church choir when she was only 3 years old, made her first studio recording at 13, competed in various talent contests, and performed at numerous state fairs. After graduating high school, she attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and continued to pursue her singing ambitions each summer. In her final year of college, she decided to try out for the 2005 season of the TV talent show "American Idol" and her Mom drove her to St. Louis Missouri, for the auditions. Carrie sailed through and the girl from the rural heartland soon found herself in Los Angeles, competing in the final rounds. 12 weeks and 500 million votes later, just two singers remained. The grand finale saw a tearful Carrie outpoll rocker Bo Bice to become "American Idol" In the early weeks of the competition. "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell predicted that not only would Carrie win, she would outsell all the previous idols. Her 2005 debut album "Some Hearts" proved him right. The fastest-selling debut country album in U.S. history, it helped earn her a slew of honors, including Billboard and American Music Awards, and Three Grammys. Her second album, 2007s "Carnival Ride" topped the U.S, album charts and earned her two more Grammys. "Play On" released in 2009- and 2012s "Blown Away" were also album chart-toppers. All four of her studio albums topped the country charts. Now the reigning queen of country music, she holds the record for most No. 1 hits by a female on the billboard hot country songs chart, racking up 13 to date. She has sold in excess of 16 million albums and 30 million singles, ambassing a fortune estimated to be in the neighborhood of 100 million dollars. Carrie has been married to hockey star Mike Fisher since 2010.
