Biographic Steve McGarry Timothy Dalton Born in Colwyn Bay, Wales, Timothy Peter Dalton enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1964, following stage and TV work, he made his film debut as King Philip II of France in "The Lion in Winter." Subsequent credits included a number of period pieces, including the movies "Wuthering Heights," "Cromwell" and "Mary, Queen of Scots." He worked extensively on the stage throughout the 1970s, touring with the royal Shakespeare Company and other troupes. Timothy returned to film and TV in 1978 with leading roles in the Mae West movie "Sextette" and the TV miniseries "Centennial." The early '80s saw him make a brief foray into sci-fi with the role of Prince Barin in "Flash Gordon" before taking on a spate of TV costume dramas, including "Antony and Cleopatra," "Jane Eyre" and "The Master of Ballantrae." Worldwide superstardom was assured when he was chosen to succeed Roger Moore and play James Bong in 1987's "the Living Daylights." He returned to the role in 1989 with "Licence to Kill," but a third outing never materialized after the franchise became mired in legal wrangles. Post-007, his work has spanned stage, TV and film. TV roles have ranged from his portrayal of Rhett Butler in the "Gone with the Wind" sequel miniseries "Scarlett" to a recurring role on "Doctor Who," and his movies have ranged from the Western "American Outlaws" to such animated fare as "Toy Story 3." His latest project sees him take on the leading role of explorer Sir Malcolm Murray on the big-budget cable TV horror series "Penny Dreadful."
