Having developed a passion for acting, he moved to London when he was 19 to attend The Central School of Speech and Drama, after touring in Chekhov's "Three Sisters" he began to land TV work. Following his role as Sgt. Burton "Pat" Christenson in Steven Spielberg's 2001 miniseries "Band of Brothers," he went on to star as the notorious Guy Fawkes in the 2004 BBC historical drama "Gunpowder, Treason & Plot." His starring role as dark angel Azazeal in the cult BBC fantasy series "Hex" earned him a legion of fans, whose ranks were swelled by his big-screen debut as the young Spartan soldier Stelios in 2007's Blockbuster hit "300." The following year, his harrowing portrayal of Irish political prisoner Bobby Sands in "Hunger" earned Michael critical acclaim and a clutch of awards. 2009 brought further accolades and awards recognition. Michael followed his lead role in the small British indie "Fish Tank" with his portrayal of British officer Lt. Archie Hicox in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds," In 2010, Michael starred as Quintus Dias of the ninth Roman legion in "Centrion" before tackling the role of tattooed psychopath Burke in the western action drama "Jonah Hex." His 2011 choices were even more eclectic- Edward Rochester in the period romance "Jane Eyre," a romp as the villainous Magneto in "X-Men First Class" a portrayal of psychology innovator Carl Jung in "A Dangerous Method" and the controversial "Shame" a role that earned him a further slew of awards. Now Michael continues his soaring trajectory with his starring role in Ridley Scott's big-budget "Alien" prequel, "Prometheus."
