A gawky, insecure kid in glasses, she was probably the most unlikely superstar in her Georgia High School... but Julia Roberts grew up to become an Oscar winner and the highest-paid actress in Hollywood history! Born on October 28, 1967, Julie Fiona Roberts was raised with her sister in Smyrna, Georgia by their mother, her brother, Eric lived with their father in Atlanta before moving to New York to pursue an acting career. By 1985, both sisters were also living in New York and struggling to break into acting. After learning that there was already an actress named Julie Roberts, she changed her first name to Julia. She endured months of failed auditions until her big brother intervened. By now, Eric was an Oscar-nominated star, and Julia was an Oscar-nominated star, and Julia was cast in his movie "Blood Red" although it wasn't released until 1989, it gave young Julia the foot in the door she needed, and her career quickly began to take shape. After a couple of minor film and tv roles, she made her breakthrough in "Mystic Pizza." Then, cast alongside a host of Hollywood's female elite in 1989's Steel Magnolias" she stole the movie, earning an Oscar nomination and winning a Golden Globe. Her next movie saw Julia make the effortless leap to superstardom. "Pretty Woman" which paired her with Richard Gere, grossed more than $460 million worldwide and earned her a second Oscar nomination. Her next projects ranged from the frivolous fun of "Hook" in which she played Tinkerbell- to the drama of "The Pelican Brief." But it was romantic comedy in which her fans seemed to love her best, as evidenced by the success of "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "Notting Hill." By the time she won an Oscar for 2000's Erin Brockovich," she was earning $20 million per movie. She subsequently combined stage work with an eclectic choice of movies, from lighthearted romps such as "Ocean's Eleven" to the animated "The Ant Bully." She made her Broadway debut in 2006, starring in a revival of "Three Days of Rain" that grossed $1 million in ticket sales in the first week. Now a married mother of three, she is still a major box-office draw, with more recent hits that include "Closer" "Charlie Wilsons' War" "Duplicity" "Valentine's Day" "Eat Pray Love." The latest page in her storybook career sees Julia tackle real fairy-tale role, playing the evil Queen Clementianna in "Mirror Mirror" an adaptation of the classic Snowy White Fable.
