Rooney Mara was born in Bedford, New York, on April 17, 1985 into a pro football dynasty her dad is a New York Giants executive, one great-grandfather was the founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and another was the founder of the Giants. She was in her late teens before she decided to follow her sister, Kate Mara whose credits include "Entourage" and "127 Hours" into a career in professional acting. Rooney appeared in student films while attending NYU and played Juliet in a production of "Romeo and Juliet" she made her professional debut in "Urban Legends: Bloody Mary" a 2005 horror movie that starred her sister. In 2006, at age 21, she visited Africa and was moved to create the Kenyan orphan's charity Faces of Kibera. Early acting credits included the tv shows, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "ER" and such movies as "Tanner Hall," "Youth In Revolt" and "The Winning Season" in 2010, she starred in "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "The Social Network" Now with her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" she is poised for movie superstardom.
