Born and Raised in a tough, working-class suburb of manchester, England, aspiring guitarist Noel Gallagher landed a job as a roadie with The Inspirational Carpets. He returned from a tour to find kid brother Liam fronting a local band, and within a short space of time, Noel was installed as the guitarist, songwriter and leading light of the quintet Oasis, the band's rise to fame in the U.K was meteoric. "Definitely Maybe" became the fastest-selling debut album in U.K. history and the follow up (What's The Story) Morning Glory? sold more than 18 million copies worldwide. In Britain, 250,000 tickets to the band's two shows at Knebworth sold out within minutes. In the U.S. the likes of "Wonderwall" made the "Britpop" pioneers an MTV favorite. From the outset, the squabbles between the two brothers were the stuff on rock legend, and success brought even more strife, cancelled tours, personnel changes and tabloid tales of excess took a heavy toll. By the turn of the century, Noel and Liam were the only original members left, and the two were barely on speaking terms. In 2009, Noel announced his departure from Oasis, leaving Liam to regroup the band under the name Beady Eye. Now Noel has returned to the Fray, topping the U.K. album charts with "Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds" and playing a string of dates in major cities around the world.
