Following his acclaimed documentaries of Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones, Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese has turned his attention to the youngest member of The Beatles. A decade after George Harrison lost his battle with lung cancer, Scorsese chronicles his life and times in the documentary "George Harrison: Living In The Material World" narrated by George's son Dhani, and produced his widow, Olivia, the film contains a treasure trove of previously at the Telluride Film Festival in September, the movie was aired in two parts on HBO. As a group, The Beatles appeared in five movies- "A Hard Day's Night" "Help" the tv film "Magical Mystery Tour" the animated feature "Yellow Submarine" and the documentary "Let It Be" and 'the fab four' have been the subject of countless documentaries and biopics. The official six-part documentary, "The Beatles Anthology" debuted in 1995. Individually, all four Beatles racked up credits on both sides of the camera. John Lennon led the way, starring as Private Gripweed in the movie "How I WOn The War" Ringo Starr appeared with Peter Sellers in 1969s "The Magic Christian" before going on to star in the likes of "Candy" "That'll Be The Day" and "Caveman." Although Beatles tracks have graced a relatively small number of soundtracks, from "Shampoo" to "The Social Network" the music of The Beatles has inspired entire movies, including "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band," The 1978 musical talent that featured Peter Frampton and The Bee Gees, and 2007's "Across The Universe" Both George Harrison and Paul McCartney turned their hand to composing entire film soundtracks, and McCartney was Oscar-nominated for the theme songs "Live And Let Die" and "Vanilla Sky" McCartney also wrote and starred in his own feature film, 1984 "Give My Regards To Broad Street." Two years later, Paul wrote and produced the animated film "Rupert And The Frog Song" in 2001, he released the documentary "Wingspan: An Intimate Portrait" a tribute to his lat wife, Linda McCartney. Ringo directed the Marc Bolan documentary "Born To Boogie," and George launched his own movie production company, with credits ranging from "Life Of Brian" to Madonna's "Shanghai Surprise" Beatles have made cameos in everything from "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" to "The Simpsons" but perhaps the quirkiest Beatles screen ventures were Ringo's narration of the "Thomas The Tank Engine" children's tv star and his role as Mr. Conductor on the PBS children's series "Shining Time Station."
