Born Shaun Mark Bean in Shefield, England on April 17, 1959, Sean Bean left school at 16 and tried his hand at a number of jobs, including shoveling snow for the local authority and selling cheese in a supermarket, before working as a welder at his Dad's steel plating firm. His passions had been soccer and boxing until he chanced upon an arts clas while on a welding course at a local college. A newfound interest in the arts led to drama classes... and within a few months, he won a scholarship to London's famous Royal academy of dramatic art. He began to establish a strong reputation on stage and tv, before making his feature film debut in "Caravaggio" in 1986, starring roles in the lies of "Lorna Doone," "Clarissa" and "Lady Chatterley" made him a tv star in Britain, and his role in 1992's "Patriot Games" opposite Harrison Ford, was well-received. The following year, he debuted in the role that would make him a tv favorite on both sides of the Atlantic, maverick Napoleonic wars rifleman, Richard Sharpe. Movie roles ranged from Farmer Grey in an adaptation of the children's classic "Black Beauty" to Bond villain Alec Travelyan in 1995's "Goldeneye" he played Boromir in The Blockbuster "Lord Of The Rings" triology, and appeared in a steady stream of big-budget movies including "Troy" "National Treasure" and "The Island" and continued to work on British atv and film productions, as well as performing "MacBeth" on the London Stage His more recent credits range from a remake of "The Hitcher" to "Death Race 2" and the lead role in the historical horror movie "Black Death HBOs" epic medieval fantasy series "Game Of Thrones" in which Sean stars as nobleman Ned Stark- debuted to rave reviews and was immediately renewed for a second season.
