Born in Blackburn, England, on September 29, 1943 Ian McShane was raised in nearby Manchester where his Dad was a soccer player with Machester United. Classically trained at the Royal Academy of dramatic art, McShane began his career on the british stage before making his movie debut with a starring role in 1962's "The Wild And The Willing" (aka "Young And Willing.) He continued to star on British stage, and screen throughout the 1960s and by the 1970s, he was also a familiar face on American screens, thanks to roles such as Sir Eric Russell in "Roots" Judas Iscariot in "Jesus of Nazareth" and the lead in Masterpiece Theater's "Disraeli: Portrait of A Romantic." His most famous TV role was probably that of the roughish antiques dealer on "LoveJoy" a BBC series that ran for eight years and aired on A&E in the states. He also starred as English Cad Don Lockwood on "Dallas" and popped up on the likes of "Columbo" and "Miami Vice." Following his portrayal of the villainous Al Swearengen on the cult HBO series "Deadwood" a role that earned him a Golden Globe award- he voiced characters in "Shrek The Third" "Kung Fu Panda" and "Coraline" starred on the short-lived TV series "Kings" and played evil priest Waleran Bigod on "The Pillars Of The Earth." 50 years into his career, he now stars in his most high-profile role- the notorious Blackbeard in "Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."
