Born in London on May 5, 1988, Adele Laurie Blue Adkins attended the brit school, the performing arts academy whose former students include Amy Winehouse, Jessie J, and Leona Lewis. A three-song demo, which she recorded as a class project, gained a lot of attention on social networking sites, and she was soon signed to a recording contract with the XL Recordings label in late 2006. Her second single, "Chasing Pavements" was a big British hit in early 2008, paving the way for her first album, "19" to debut at the top of the U.K. charts. Having conquered Britain with impressive Ease. Attention turned to breaking into the states. The early U.S. shows met with critical acclaim, and an appearance on "Saturday Night Live" an episode that drew huge ratings because of a cameo by Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin- introduced Adele to a vast audience. The reaction to her "SNL" appearance was immediate. The very next day, her album topped the itunes chart. Within a week, the album was at No. 11 on the Billboard Charts. Released, in early 2011, her second album "21" surpassed Madonna's feat of nine weeks at the top of the U.K. charts, making Adele the most successful female artist in U.K history. The album debuted at No. 1 in the U.S. and has topped the charts in every major music market.
