We first featured Katy Perry in Biographic back in 2008, when she first burst onto the pop scene. In the short time since then, she has become one of the biggest pop stars on the planet- and still found time to get married to one of comedy's rising stars. Born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in Santa Barbara, California, on October 25, 1984, the middle child of two pastors, she grew up listening to gospel music and singing in church. She released her first CD, the Christian gospel album "Katy Hudson" in 2001. Moving to Los Angeles, she adopted the name Katy Perry, and worked with the hip production team The Matrix on an album project that was eventually shelved. she also worked with Glen Ballard, the writer, and producer famed for his work with Alanis Morissette on the multiplatinum album "Jagged Little Pill" although the collaboration yielded a track "Simple" that made it onto the soundtrack of 2005's "The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" the collaboration failed to kickstart her career. In 2007, she signed to Capitol Records, a well-received debut EP was followed in 2008 by "I Kissed A Girl" the first single from her album "One Of The Boys" it quickly became a global smash, hitting the top slot everywhere from the U.K to Australia and became the 1,000th U.S. chart-topper in Billboard chart history, the next single "Hot N Cold" was another worldwide hit. In 2009, she began dating British comedian Russell Brand. The couple soon became engaged and were married in India in late 2010. Her third album, "Teenage Dream" confirmed her superstar status, thanks to the chart-topping singles "California Gurls" "Teenage Dream" and "Firework" 2011 will see Katy make the movie to the big screen, voicing the character Smurfette in the movie "The Smurfs."
