Born Onika Tanya Maraj on December 8, 1984, in Saint James, Port Of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Nicki Minaj was raised in Jamaica, Queens, New York, from the age of 5. She studied drama at Manhattan's Fiorello H. Laguardia high school of music and art- the performing arts school that inspired the movie "Fame" and was a member of the developing artists theater company. Her background in the drama is evident in the numerous personas she has adopted in her music career, including her "Twin Sister" Roman Zolanski, and Nicki Teresa, a character with the power to heal alter egos that have drawn comparison to Eminem and his Slim Shady creation. Nicki was discovered on Myspace by Dirty Money records CEO Fendi, and this led to her signing to Lil Wayne's Young Money Entertainment label. Following three well-received mixtapes, she went supernova in 2010. Appearing on singles with a host of stars, including Usher, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, will.i.am, Drake, Kanye West, and Rihanna. Her debut album "Pink Friday" went platinum, helping earn her a slew of awards, and she made history as the first artist to have seven songs on Billboard's hot 100 simultaneously.
