Born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 13, 1957, Steve Buscemi suffered a fractured skull as a youngster when he was hit by a bus and was later hit by a car while chasing a ball into the street, this tough streak stood him in good stead as a member of his high school's varsity wrestling team. Where he was also an avid soccer player, he took up acting during his final year of high school. He studied acting at Manhattan's famed Lee Strasberg Institute and worked a variety of jobs including bartender, ice cream vendor, and firefighter- before his acting career took off. Early roles included such TV shows as "Miami Vice" and "The Equalizer" and the movies "Mystery Train" "Barton Fink" and "Billy Bathgate" He gained cult stardom, and an independent spirit award, with his portrayal of Mr. Pink in Quentin Tarantino's 1992, Dark Thriller "Reservoir Dogs" The 1990s, saw Buscemi establish himself as one of the most versatile character actors in movies, with roles ranging from naive bowler Donny in "The Big Lebowski" to a vicious killer in "Fargo" as well as making cameo in a string of Adam Sandler comedies, including "Billy Madison" and "The Wedding Singer." He was showered with awards and acclaim for 2001's "Ghost World" and has continued to add to his lengthy list of credits in a diverse range of movies. As well as becoming an accomplished writer and director. Following his Emmy-nominated roles on "The Sopranos" and "30 Rock" his latest project is the lead in HBO's eagerly anticipated "Boardwalk Empire" series.
