Although his Dad had been a member of The Tornados, the British beat group that topped the U.S. charts in 1962 with the Novelty hit "Telstar." Matthew Bellamy grew up in Teigmouth, Devon, an English seaside town not readily associated with the world of Rock music. So it wasn't until Rocket Baby Dolls- a band formed by Bellamy and his College friends Christopher Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard- won a local battle of the bands contest in 1994, that they began to think seriously about a future in music. The trio changed the band name to Muse and struck up a relationship with the owner of a recording studio. Early releases found success on the U.K indie singles charts, but major british labels were slow to catch on. LEading m=Muse to sign separate deals with labels in a number of territories around the world. The debut studio album, achieved minor success. Subsequent albums fared progressivly better, mirroring the band's growing popularity. 2003's "Absolution" debuted at the top of the British charts, and yielded the group's first top ten hit single "Time IS Running Out" The highlight of a worldwide appearance at the Glastonbury festival... but minutes after Muse left the stage in Triumph, Dominic's Dad, who was in attendance, collapse and Died. In 2006, the "Black Holes and Revalations" album took Muse to the top of the charts in a number of countries, including the U.K. and Australia. Thanks, in part, to the huge success of the epic single "Knights of Cydonia" the album broke the top ten on the U.S. and headlining giant festivals. In 2009, the band's fifth studio album, "The Resistance" topped the charts in 19 countries and hit the top three on the U.S. charts, completing Muse's journey from a sleepy english seaside two to the pinnacle of Rock Stardom.
