Born Helen Folosade Adu in Badan, Nigeria, on January 16, 1959, Sade (Pronounced Sah-Day) was four years old when she moved to Britain with her brother and their English mother. She studied fashion design at art school in London before setting up her own design company after graduation. She also did a little work as a photographic model, and began performing with a Latin soul band called Arriva before moving on to join the band Pride. In 1982, she teamed up with Band mates Stuart Matthew man and Paul Spencer Denman to form a splinter group, which they named after their strikingly attractive lead singer, recruiting fourth member Andrew Hale, Sade quickly began to attract record company interest. The group's debut single, "Your Love Is King" hit the top 5 on the U.K charts, paving the way for the debut album "Diamond Life" to go multi-platinum. Singles such as "Smooth Operator" and "The Sweetest Taboo" helped Sade break big in the states and win a best new artist Grammy Award. In the summer of 1985, the band's set at Live Aid was broadcast to a worldwide audience of (4 billion people). By the end of the decade, they had established themselves as one of the top adult contemporary hit makers in the world. The early 1990's saw the group's music featured such movies as "Philadelphia" and "Indecent Proposal" while they continued to release multi-platinum albums. A lengthy hiatus followed, during which time, Sade married and divorced, lived in Spain and Jamaica, and started a family. The group's subsequent output has been sporadic, whit 2000's" "Lover's Rock" album their only offering of new material until the recent "Soldier of Love" album, which debuted at the top of the U.S. album charts, adding to the career tally of 50 million worldwide album sales!
