Jonathan Rhys Meyers was born in Dublin, Ireland, on July 27, 1977. A serious heart condition kept him confined to hospital for several months as an infant. He and his three brothers were subsequently raised by their mother in County Cork. He left school at 16 with no real ambitions or prospects, but was discovered by a casting agency. He made his acting debut in a soup commercial before landing a small role in the 1994 movie "A Man of No Importance." He went on to appear in projects as diverse as the film "Michael Collins" opposite Liam Neeson, and the 1996 TV movie "Samson and Delilah" his big break came with a memorable portrayal of "Glam" rock star opposite Ewan McGregor and Christan Bale in 1998's "Velvet Goldmine" He went on to land starring roles in the BBC's epic production of "Gormenghast" and the 2002 TV adaptation of "The Magnificient Ambersons" that same year, "Bend it Like Beckham" was a surprise box-office hit, earning Jonathan legions of new admirers worldwide. The CBS miniseries "Elvis" earned him a Golden Globe award and an Emmy nomination for his portrayal of the legendary rocker. "Match Point" and "Mission Impossible III" were followed by "The Tudors" the hit TV series that has so far earned him two consecutive golden globe nominations for his portrayal of King Henry VIII. For his return to the big screen, Rhys Meyers teamed with John Travolta for the buddy cop movie "From Paris With Love"
