Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta in Yonkers, New York, on March 28, 1986. She learned piano at an early age, and by her teens was writing and performing music. She left NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and began olaying with bands on the New York Club Scene, where she teamed up wiht Dancer Lady Starlight in a performance art group. By then she was known as Lady Gaga, a stagename inspired by Queen's "Radio Gaga" hit. Following a short-lived deal with Island Def Jam, she signed to Interscope and collaborated with singer-songwriter Akon. As well as pennign songs for the likes of Britney Spears and Fergie, she worked with producer Red One on songs for her debut record. Released in EArly 2008, the single "Just Dance" topped the charts worldwide, earning a Grammy nomination and paving the way for her multi-platinum album "The Fame" The second single "Poker Face" was number one in more than a dozen countries. She has toured with New Kids on The Block and Pussycat Dolls, as well as headlining her own Fame Ball tour. She also recently graced the pop world has a new star.
