Born in Marco Island, Florida, on April 9, 1986, Leighton Marissa Claire Meester was 10 years old when she moved to New York with her mother rand two brothers to pursue modeling and acting. She enrolled in the professional children's school and landed roles in TV commercials, as well as making her screen debut in a 1999 episode of "Law and Order." When it came time for Leighton to go high school, the family headed to Los Angeles, where she attended Hollywood High, and later Beverly Hills High. Meanwhile, the acting roles kept coming, and she appeared on the likes of "Boston Public" and "Crossing Jordan" as well as landing a recurring role on "Tarzan." She racked up credits on "CSI: Miami" and "Numb3rs" as well as recurring roles on "24," "Veronica Mars" "Shark" "Entourage" "House, M.D" and "Surface" Having made her movie debut in 2003's "Hangman's Curse," she starred in 2007's "Drive-Thru," a movie in which she also moved off her vocal talents. Her big break came in 2006, when she wa cast as Blair Waldorf on "Gossip Girl," the TV series based on the books by Cecily Von Ziegesar. The show has proved a massive hit with teen and young adult viewers worldwide, catapulting the young cast onto the cover of magazines such as "Rolling Stone" and earning Leighton two Teen Choice Award nominations.
