Born Christian Michael Leonard Hawkins in New York on August 18, 1969, Christian Slater was trained at the professional childrens school and the high school of the performing arts made famous in the movie and TV series "Fame." He began his career as a child on the soap opera "One Life To Live," before making his Broadway debut opposite Dick Van Dyke in a production of "The Music Man." Further Broadway roles and tv work followed before he made his movie debut in 1985s "The Legend of Billie Jean" going on to pick up good notices in movies as diverse as "Gleaming The Cube" and "The Name of the Rose," 1989's "Heathers" and 1990s "Pump Up the Volume" earned him teen pin-up status. Although his private life saw him, develop a Hollywood bad-boy reputation, the early 1990s brought success in the likes of "Young Guns II" "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" "Mobsters" "True Romance" and "Untamed Heart." He replaced River Phoenix in 1994's Interview With a Vampire" following the young actor's tragic death, and donated his entire fee to charity. Although "Broken Arrow" topped the box office charts in 1996, his profile had lowered by the time the new millennium dawned. In recent years, he has returned to the stage, starring in London's West End. Now with the heavily touted spy drama "My Own Worst enemy Slater" is the star of a major primetime tv series.
