Adam Sandler. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on September 9, 1966, Adam Richard Sandler was already performing in comedy clubs by the time he enrolled at New York University. In his final year at NYU, he was cast in a recurring role on "The Cosby Show" and after graduating- with a BFA in drama- he landeda regular stint on MTV's "Remote Control" Having made his movie debut in 1989's "Going Overboard" he was hired as a writer on "Saturday Night Live" in 1990, and by the following year, was a regular cast member. He was frequently panned by critics, but characters such as Canteen boy and Opera Man, as well as his impressions of such rockers as Springsteen and Bono, made him a firm favorite with viewers. in 1993 comedy album went double platinum, earning a Grammy nomination and spawning a string of subsequent hit albums, which he promoted by playing to packed audiences on tours of colleges. His film career began to take good shape, with roles in "Coneheads" "Airheads" and "Mixed Nuts." His big breakthrough came with 1995's "Billy Madison" leaving "SNL" to concentrate on movies Adam starred in the big hits "Happy Gilmore" "The Wedding Singer" "The Waterboy" and "Big Daddy" The hits have continued to flow, making him one of Hollywood's highest earners. He has interspersed the goofball comedies with more challenging fare, such as "Punch-Drunk Love" and "Reign Over Me" his production company has not just struck gold with his own starring vehicles, it has also produced the likes of the Deuce Bigalow movies and the sitcom "Rules of Engagement.
