Janet Jackson. Born on May 16, 1966, into one of the most famous families in the history of popular music, Janet Damita Jo Jackson began her career as a little girl, performing onstage with her famous brothers and appearing on the TV show "The Jacksons." In 1977, she landed a regular role on the sitcom "Good Times." This was followed by recurring roles on "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Fame" and appearances on the likes of "The Love Boat" She launched her own singing career at the age of 15. Although her first two albums achieved limited success, that changed in 1986 with the release of "Control" an album that spawned five top- 5 hits- including her first Billboard a slew of awards. Her next album "Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814." 1993's "Janet" album debuted at number one in the U.S. and topped the charts in 22 countries. That same year, she made her movie debut with "Poetic Justice" generating a best original song Oscar Nomination in the process. In 1995, her duet with Brother Michael- "Scream" was accompanied by a $7 million video, the most expensive ever made. Not that Janet was hurting for cash- in 1996, she inked a recording contract worth $80 million! The following year, her multi-platinum "Velvet Rope" album cemented her status as a global superstar 2001s "All For You" was her fifth consecutive chart-topping studio album. She also starred with Eddie Murphy in "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" the infamous wardrobe malfunction during the halftime show at the 2004 Super Bowl made headline news worldwide but failed to spur sales of her next two albums. Both of which performed disappointingly. In 2007, her movie "Why Did I Get Married?" Topped the box office. And in early 2008, her "Discipline" album took her back to the top of the U.S. album charts.
