Harrison Ford. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on July 13, 1942. Harrison Ford spent the early years of his career struggling to get a foothold in Hollywood. Despite minor movie roles and appearances on such TV shows as "Gunsmoke" "The Virginian" "Ironside" "Kung Fu" and "The Mod Squad", he achieved more success as a carpenter to the stars, working on projects for a number of Hollywood luminaries. He built cabinets for director George Lucas, who then kick-started Harrison's career by casting him in a leading role in 1973s "American Graffiti." Carpentry worked for Francis Ford Coppola led to further movie work, and then Lucas cast him as Han Solo in 1977s "Star Wars" the first in a triology of sci-fi classics that spawned a cultural phenomenon and helped make Harrison Ford a superstar 1981 "Raiders of the Lost Ark" saw the debut of another iconic character Indiana Jones, a role he has reprised in three sequels. Incredibly, in the 1990s he starred in a third, hugely popular series. Playing CIA agent Jack Ryan in adaptations of the best-selling Tom Clancy novels. Other hit movies includes 1982s "Bladerunner" which is now hailed as a sci-fi masterpiece, "Air Force One," and a remake of TV classic "The Fugitive." By 2002s "K-19: The Windowmaker" Ford's salary had risen to 3.25 million and a share of the gross- a fair return for a living legend whose movies have so far grossed more than $6 billion.
