Born to Australian parents in Honolulu, Hawaii, on June 20, 1967 Nicole Mary Kidman studied drama at Sydney's Australian Theatre for Young people. A starring role in the music video for Pat Wilson's hit Australian single "Bop Girl" led to Australian tv and movie roles, including 1982's "BMX Bandits." Her work in the acclaimed tv mini-series "Vietnam" brought her to the attention of an Australian film institute award. She made her Hollywood debut opposite Sam Neill in the 1989 thriller "Dead Calm" and her next movie cast her opposite Tom Cruise in "Days of Thunder." The two became romantically involved and married on Christmas Eve, 1990. They starred together in two more movies- 1992's "Far and Away" and 1995's "Eyes Wide Shut" the marriage, which ended in 2001, produced two adopted children. Throughout the 1990s, Nicole's star continued to rise. She earned rave reviews and a clutch of awards, including a Golden Globe, for her portrayal of a murderous newscaster inthe dark comedy "To Die For" and starred opposite George Clooney in "Batman Forever" and "The Peacemaker," The 2001 Baz Luhrmann musical "Moulin Rouge" earned her a second golden globe award and her first Oscar nomination, and even spawned a singing career. "Come What May" her duet with co-star Ewan McGregor, hti the top 30 on the U.K Pop charts. She went to the top of the U.K charts when she teamed up with the Robbie Williams on a re-make of "Somethin' Stupid." Her work in 2002' "The Hours"earned her a Golden Globe, a bafta and the best actress Academy Award, subsequent credits include "Cold Mountain" and "The Interpreter." She was made a companion of the order of Australia, her country's highest civilian honor, in 2006, the same year that she married fellow aussie country star Keith Urban
