Robin Hood First recounted in the ballads of medieval England, the legend of Robin Hood has been a staple of the screen since movie-making earliest days. The tale was told in a number of silent films, most notably the 1922 classic, which notably the 1922 classic, which starred Douglas Fairbanks. The swashbuckling Errol Flynn made the role his own in the definitive 1938 version and over the next few years, a numer of movies featured the outlaw's offspring. A late '50s TV series starring Richard Greene spawned a 1960 movie version, 141 episodes of "The Adventures of Robin Hood" where made during the show's 5-year run. In the 1980s The Legend returned to British television with a series that gained a cult following in North America, and earned actor Michael Praed, who played Robin of Loxley on the show's first two seasons, a starring role on "Dynasty" Keira Knightly played Robin's Daughter in a 2011 tv movie, and the latest incarnation stars Jonas Armstrong in a tv series from the BBC. Some very unlikely figures have portrayed Robin over the years, from John Cleese in 1981's. "Time Bandits" to Daffy Duck. The legend was parodied by Mel Brooks in 1993's "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" and animated by Disney in 1973. The 1964 Frank Sinatra movie "Robin And The Seven Hoods" traded Sherwood Forest and the middle ages for prohibition-era Chicago. One of the most popular telling of the tale was the 1991 Kevin Costner blockbuster "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves." The movie also featured a cameo by Sean Connery as King Richard. Connery starred in 1976's "Robin and Marian" portraying a middle-aged Hood returning from the crusades. There is also another link Connery's son, Jason played the hero of the third season of the 1980s British tv series.
