By the late 1990s Pete was a well-known figure on the Chicago hardcore Punk scene, playing in a number of bands. In 2001, he teamed up with longtime collaborator Joe Trohman and Patrick Stump to form a new group. Drummer Andy Hurley was the last to join, by which time they had adopted the name Fall Out Boy, inspired by the comic book featured on "The Simpsons" Not Content with being the bass-playing focal point of chart-topping emo band Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz is a music label head, author and fashion mogul. He also has his own film production company, and was recently music supervisor on an episode of the MTV reality show "The Hills." Early indie label releases helped build up a strong fanbase, and led to a deal with Island Records. Fall out boy's third album, and major label debut "From Under the Cork Tree" was released in 2005, hitting the Billboard Top 10 and making the band an MTV staple. It also helped earn a best new artist Grammy nomination. Pete founded his Decaydance record label in 2005, an imprint of fueled by Ramen, the label on which early Fall Out Boy material appeared. Decaydance launched the Band Panic! At the Disco to Global success. Pete Wentz has since formed Clandestine Industries, a ocmpany that distributes clothing and accessories, and dabbled in everything from book writing to film production. But he has shown no signs of "giving up the day job" as underscored when Fall Out Boy's fourth album, "Infinity on High" debuted at the top of the Billboard charts upon it's release in Early 2007.
