Born John Francis Bongiovi, in Perth Amboy New Jersey, on March 2, 1962, he worked as a janitor at his unle's recording studio, using any studio "downtime" to record demos of his own material. When local radio stations began to play one of his songs, he recruited Richie Sambora, David Bryan, Alec John Such, and Tico Torres, changed his name to Jon Bon Jovi. and the band Bon Jovi was born. By the mid-1980s, thanks to chart-toppers such as "You Give Love A Bad Name" and "Livin' On A Prayer" Bon Jovi was one of the biggest bands in the world. The 1986 album "Slippery When Wet" has so far sold over 38 million copies! In the early 1990s, Jon enjoyed the Bon Jovi single "Wanted Dead or Alive" had been the inspiration for the hit movie "Young Guns" and Jon was asked to score the sequel. The track "Blaze of Glory" gave him a number one single and earned him an Oscar nomination. He also made his screen debut in the movie "Young Guns II" launching an acting career that has seen him star in movies such as "Moonlight and Valentino" and "U-571" as well as such TV shows as "Ally McBeal" He married his high school sweetheart in 1989, and the couple now has four children. A celebrated philanthropist, he has received numerous awards for his charity work. The band has weathered occasional lengthy periods of inactivity, and the 1994 departure of Alec John Such, to remain a major force in rock anthems such as 2000's "Its My Life" and 2005's "Have A Nice Day" have ensured continued multi-platinum success, and legions of new fans.
