Bruce Springsteen Born on September 23, 1949, Bruce Frederick Joseph Springsteen was raised in Freehold, New Jersey, at the age of 16, he joined local band The Castiles and went on the perform in the New Jersey area with a band called Child, later renamed Steel Mill. He signed a solo record with Columbia in 1972, and his debut album, "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J" was released in 1973 to strong critical acclaim. It was followed later that same year by his second album, "The Wild, the Innocent and The E Street Shuffle," He established a reputation as one of the most exciting performers in rock, his epic shows, featuring his legendary E street Band, running hours in length. It was his third album, 1975's wall of sound" classic "Born to Run." that made Springsteen a superstar he appeared on the covers of both Newsweek and Time. Artists from Manfred Mann's Earth Band to Patti Smith to the Pointer Sisters enjoyed huge hits with covers of his songs. Bruce's 1980 album, "The River" with its hit single "Hungry Heart" gave him his greatest commercial success, the album sold 15 million copies and yielded a string of hits, a subsequent live album sold an amazing 13 million units.
